Helping Jordan Innovate Its Way to Success

Working with the Jordanian Chamber of Industry (JCI) and the Jordanian Enterprise Development Corporation (JEDCO), Pera is helping to establish an innovation culture across a wide range of Jordanian businesses.

Through a combination of training and consultancy, Pera is also helping Jordanian industry to innovate and grow.

Jordan's manufacturing base has had a strong focus on quality production, but with increased pressure from low-cost manufacturing areas, JCI and JEDCO realised that future development will need the extra dimension of innovation to drive future growth.

In consultation with JCI and JEDCO, Pera developed a modular programme that would introduce innovation as a business process, transferring the knowledge and skills to pursue new ideas and bring them to fruition.

Companies were invited through the Jordanian Chamber of Industry to a one-day Innovation introduction, Inspire Change, aimed at Managing Directors, Chief Executives and Technical Directors from any sector. Delegates were introduced to innovation as a process that can be embedded flexibly into an organisation and managed just like any other business process. The companies that attended the Inspire change event conducted an Innovation Audit, the results of which allowed Pera to identify 25 companies that would go forward to the second stage, Educate to Innovate. Pera worked directly with these businesses, which represented sectors as diverse as: agrochemicals, healthcare and toiletries, agriculture, automotive, general engineering and paints. It was a deliberate policy to select companies from a range of sectors, the intention being to have a positive effect on Jordanian industry as a whole. The programme is both a skills transfer exercise and a consultancy, working with these businesses on real projects with the intention of supporting as many as possible through to market.

A major benefit of the programme is to connect Jordanian businesses to the EU, to introduce EU investment and collaboration opportunities to the Region. Through FP7, Pera is working closely with project identified through the programme to establish collaborations and consortia with major EU organisations.
